It was more than a day of golf at Arusha Gymkhana Club last Saturday, May 30, 2026. It was a celebration of friendship, respect and sporting spirit as more than 50 golfers turned up to honour Mzee Somji during his 91st Birthday Tournament.
The tournament brought together golfers across different handicap divisions in a lively Singles Stableford competition that formed part of the celebrations marking Mzee Somji’s 91st birthday.
Medina Iddi, Mark Walker and Richard Matolo emerged as the leading winners across the Three Divisions, with competition especially tight in Division 1, where the top three players all finished on the same score.
Medina Iddi claimed first place after returning 36 points. Kush Lodhia also carded 36 points to finish second while Simon Travers completed the top three, also on 36 points, with countback separating the leading players.
Mark Walker took top honours in Division 2 after posting 32 points. Saif Khanbhai followed in second place with 31 points, while Sheetal Aggarwal finished third with 30 points.
In Division 3, Richard Matolo produced the strongest score of the day, winning the division with an impressive 42 points. Murad Jivan finished second with 38 points while Jatin Sonecha secured third place with 36 points.
