Moshi Rotarians hand over new toilets to Sango Primary School, last week.
Moshi Rotarians have handed over a major sanitation project at Sango Primary School in Moshi, Kilimanjaro region, providing safe and hygienic toilet facilities for more than 520 pupils and 12 teachers.
The initiative, inaugurated on August 21, 2025, saw the renovation of 18 toilets – 16 for students and two for teachers – along with the installation of running water and dedicated handwashing sinks. Previously, the facilities had been in disrepair, forcing teachers and pupils to share toilets without proper hygienic infrastructure.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Headteacher, Mrs Claudia Maacky, hailed the project as a turning point for the school. “The students now have proper facilities to cater to their sanitation needs, which is essential for maintaining a healthy learning environment,” she said.
The project was made possible through donations from two Rotarian families in the Netherlands and Australia, underscoring the global collaboration that fuels the Rotarians’ community development initiatives.
Moshi Municipal Council Director, Mr Shedrack Mwagama, praised the effort and pledged closer cooperation with Rotary in future school projects. “This partnership allows us to combine resources and better serve our communities,” he said, while affirming the government’s commitment to continued investment in educational infrastructure.
Rotary Club Moshi President, Erasmus Kyara, highlighted the broader mission of Rotary, commending the leadership who drove the initiative. “Through collaborative efforts like this, we demonstrate Rotary’s commitment to addressing basic human needs and improving quality of life in our communities,” he noted.
