MOSHI HOCKEY GETS FIRST TURF PITCH

FROM THE ARUSHA NEWS REPORTER IN MOSHI

Moshi is building Tanzania’s first wet-base synthetic hockey turf at the Sikh Club, a development expected to expand training opportunities and enable the country to host international hockey competitions.

Tanzania Hockey Association (THA) Secretary Kaushik Doshi told The Arusha News that the project had been made possible through support and contributions from members of the Sikh community in Moshi.

Ground preparation has been completed, including levelling and compacting the playing area with a sand base. A concrete foundation has also been laid to accommodate the synthetic turf.

Doshi said the new facility would provide young players with opportunities to develop their skills and pursue the sport at a higher level. It would also offer a suitable venue for training and competition, benefiting hockey players in Moshi and across Tanzania.

He added that the completion of the turf would put Tanzania in a position to host international hockey competitions, attracting teams from across Africa to Moshi.

The THA official also said that due to the on-going construction, the annual Nyerere Hockey Tournament, which has been held in Moshi for the past 14 years, will not take place this year.
