AICC GETS NEW CHAIR

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed a seasoned diplomat and civil servant Dr Jilly Elibariki Maleko (pictured), as new Chairperson for the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) Board of Directors effective April 29, 2025.

Dr Maleko takes over from Ambassador Begum Karim Taj, who has completed her term of service.

Dr Maleko brings over three decades of experience in diplomacy, governance and international relations. From 2019 to 2023, she served as Tanzania’s Ambassador to Burundi, where she played a crucial role in strengthening bilateral ties and promoting economic diplomacy between the two nations.

Prior to her ambassadorship, she held various key positions in government, including Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) in Mtwara and Director of External Operations at the President’s Office.

Her diplomatic career also includes a decade-long tenure as Minister Counsellor at the Tanzania Embassy in Tokyo, where she focused on economic, trade and international relations. Earlier, she served as a Political and Security Analyst at the President’s Office, analysing domestic and foreign policies affecting national security.

Dr Maleko’s academic credentials are equally impressive. She earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from Meiji University in Tokyo, Japan, in 2012.
