The East African Community (EAC) has this week embarked on high-level deliberations on the Draft Seventh Development Strategy with discussions also covering the Terms of Reference (ToR) for reviewing the EAC Vision 2050.

The final outcomes were scheduled to be tabled at the 58th Extraordinary Meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers at the Community’s headquarters in Arusha yesterday (Friday).

Among other key issues, officials were reviewing a draft ToR for developing a Regional Language Policy, the draft EAC Calendar of Activities for July–December 2025 and progress on eliminating persistent Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs).

The Council of Ministers is also expected to consider measures to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Community with a particular focus on addressing critical human resource challenges.

Agenda items include the Report of Technical Experts on Job Descriptions to clarify roles and responsibilities and a review of the Operational Manual for the Quota System in staff recruitment – designed to guarantee inclusivity and fair representation across Partner States.

“The outcomes are expected to shape the Community’s strategic direction over the coming years while reinforcing its commitment to accelerating socio-economic development across its Partner States,” noted an EAC press release availed to The Arusha News
