The government has issued a nationwide health alert following an increase in influenza and COVID-19 cases in parts of the country. The Ministry of Health, in a statement issued on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, urged the public to observe preventive measures, including frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, avoiding crowded areas where possible and seeking medical attention if symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat and body aches develop.
The ministry also cautioned about Dengue Fever which has become a growing concern during the rainy season between March and April/May. Efforts by The Arusha News to obtain updated case figures for the Arusha and Kilimanjaro regions were unsuccessful by press time. However, medical sources in both regions said the situation was not alarming as of the time of publication, noting that health facilities continue routine monitoring of respiratory illnesses. The government says it will continue surveillance and provide updates as necessary.
