Shi’ite Muslims in Arusha take part in a solemn procession to mark the climax of the Ashura Festival — the “Day of Remembrance” — one of Islam’s most sacred events. It commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who was killed in the 7th century in Karbala, present-day Iraq.
