Maxmillian Iranghe has been overwhelmingly re-elected Mayor of Arusha City, garnering 33 out of 34 votes cast by fellow councillors. He will now serve a second five-year term running from 2025 to 2030.
At the same session early this week, the newly sworn-in councillors also re-elected Julius Medeiye as Deputy Mayor with 31 out of 34 votes cast.
“I am honoured by the trust placed on me once more,” said Iranghe.
“We shall continue working together to strengthen service delivery and drive Arusha’s development agenda,” he said, adding that there have been many projects unfinished in the first term.
Electing a new Mayor and his deputy, was part of the session business of the newly inaugurated Arusha City Council (ACC), following the October 29, 2025, general election that returned the ruling CCM into power.
Arusha is East Africa’s tourism and diplomatic capital as the headquarters of a number regional organisations, including the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU), the East African Community (EAC), African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR), the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) and the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU), among others.
