The Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete Foundation (JMKF) has increased its footprint in health sector interventions by launching new outreach programmes targeting maternal and child health services in underserved communities.

The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ forum in Dodoma, where the Foundation unveiled its three-year strategy (2025–2027). The approach aims to bridge existing gaps in healthcare access, particularly for women and children in rural and peri-urban areas.

“Improving health outcomes requires deliberate and inclusive efforts that involve local communities, health workers and government stakeholders,” said Dr. Hassan Mshinda, CEO of JMKF and former Director General of COSTECH.

Key initiatives will include:

  • Mobile health clinics deployed in remote districts
  • Training of community health volunteers
  • Health education campaigns on maternal nutrition and child vaccination
  • Supporting adolescent reproductive health programmes in schools

The Foundation, established by former President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete in 2017, has become a leading non-state actor in health and education. Its latest report noted that over 300,000 Tanzanians have directly benefited from its projects since inception.

Partner organisations include UNICEF, AMREF, USAID and the Ministry of Health.

“We are building a healthier future by investing where it matters most — the people,” Dr. Mshinda concluded.
