Arusha-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), ABC Impact, has raised Sh 30 million to provide free bicycles to girls in rural areas aiming to ease their daily long journeys to and from school, markedly protecting them from potential dangers along the way.
The funds were raised during a charity dinner gala held at the Gran Melia Hotel in Arusha on May 3, 2025.
Speaking to The Arusha News, ABC Impact Manager, Mr Mohammed Mussa, said the organisation has distributed more than 2,000 bicycles since 2022 to girls in 28 schools in six regions – Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Dodoma, Shinyanga, Morogoro and Manyara.

“This time, we aim to reach 3,000 students,” Mr Mussa said. “We’re collaborating with partner organisations, public schools and local governments to identify the students who need them the most.”
He explained that the selection process involves awareness campaigns and pre-distribution surveys within schools to ensure the bicycles go to the most deserving recipients.
Founded in 2015 to improve access to education and empower the youth, ABC Impact also runs the Youth Bike Academy, a programme nurturing young cycling enthusiasts. The academy currently supports 56 students from diverse backgrounds.
“Bicycles are more than just transport – they’re a key solution to reducing school dropouts among girls who face unsafe and exhausting commuting to and from schools,” concluded Mr Mussa.
