Police in Arusha have appealed to members of the public to assist with information that could lead to investigations into the death of Abdilah Mussa, popularly known as “Banjoo,” a well-known gemstone trader. Arusha Regional Police Commander (RPC), Justine Masejo, said the trader was reported missing on after he was last seen on Thursday, February 12, 2026. According to family members, he had left a gym at the Ngorongoro Area Authority building near the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) offices and the Central Police Station in Arusha.
Police later confirmed that a body identified as of Mussa’s was discovered on February 18, 2026 in the Bereko area of Kondoa District, Dodoma Region, approximately 300 kilometres from Arusha. Authorities said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding his death. The late Mussa’s widow has also appealed to the public to assist investigators with any information that could help clarify what happened during the period he went missing. She called for cooperation with law enforcement as the investigation continues. RPC Masejo assured the public that any information shared would be treated with strict confidentiality and urged anyone with credible leads to report to the nearest police station.
