RAINS KILL 4 IN ARUSHA, MOSHI

At least four people, including two from the same family, lost their lives following heavy rains in Arusha and Kilimanjaro regions early this week.

In Arusha, a young boy, who could not be immediately identified, was swept away by floodwaters after falling from a moving motorcycle. The ‘bodaboda’ was trying to negotiate its way through floods.

His parents survived the incident, according to Acting Arusha Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr Alvas Mkweli.

Several parts of Arusha town experienced flooding, with some properties damaged or swept away by the heavy rains. In Moshi, three persons, including two women and a child from the same family, died when a wall collapsed on them as they sought shelter from the torrential rains.

Seventeen others were rescued from flooded areas. Four were admitted to hospital and one was later discharged while others were reported to be doing well.

The floods, which lasted over six hours, submerged homes and destroyed the Kiboroloni Ward bridge, cutting off access to several neighbourhoods and disrupting transport along the main Moshi–Dar es Salaam highway.
