Tanzania has once again cemented its reputation as the premier home of wildlife tourism after being voted The World’s Leading Safari Destination at the 2025 World Travel Awards (WTA).

The global honour, announced during the Grand Finals held on December 6, 2025, at Bahrain’s state-of-the-art Exhibition World Center, reinforces the country’s growing dominance in nature-based travel.

Often likened to the “Oscars” of the tourism industry, the WTA Grand Finals drew more than 500 leading government representatives and travel experts from across the world. Amid this competitive field, Tanzania emerged prominently, demonstrating the strength of its conservation efforts, destination branding and visitor experiences.

The night proved exceptionally rewarding for the country, recording a triple victory. Zanzibar earned the title of Africa’s Best Corporate Retreat Destination under the World MICE Awards while the Serengeti—famed for its dramatic wildebeest migration—took home the global crown of World’s Leading National Park 2025. These recognitions further highlight Tanzania’s unmatched diversity in both leisure and corporate tourism.

The private sector also shared in the triumph. Serengeti Balloon Safaris was named World’s Leading Balloon Ride Operator, while Jumaira Thanda Resort on Mafia Island secured the award for Best Private Island Resort.

The honours showcase Tanzania’s expanding range of luxury and adventure offerings that appeal to high-end travellers.
