The government has reiterated its commitment to prosecute unethical pharmacists who steal and sell public medicines, because the malpractice undermines the delivery of daily public health services.
Opening the Annual Scientific Conference and General Meeting of the Pharmaceutical Society of Tanzania (PST) in Arusha recently, the Vice-President, Dr Philip Mpango decried the increasing disappearance of government medicines from public hospitals and clinics, only to be found for sale in private pharmacies.
“Government medicines must be found in public facilities, not in private shops. Those found stealing medicines must face legal action,” stressed the VP.
The PST’s President, Mr Fadhil Hezekiah, proposed the creation of a national health innovation centre.
