Arusha’s AICC lawn tennis team stole the spotlight at the Katoto Tennis Academy Tournament in Dodoma over the weekend, returning with six medals and fresh pride.

The two-day competition, organised by Katoto Tennis Academy, featured group matches, semi-finals and finals, drawing young players from across the region.

AICC’s medal winners were Kelvin Erick (12), 1st place in the under 12 category; Bry Mdee (10), 1st place in the under 10 category; Armaan Nadim (9), 2nd place in the same category; Derrick Erick (8), 1st place in the under 8 category; and Aamir Nadim (7), third place.

Five-year-old Belinda Charles received a special award as the tournament’s youngest player.

The club was represented by 10 children and three coaches, with parents sponsoring travel, meals, accommodation and tournament fees to ensure even children from underprivileged backgrounds could compete.

Coach Richard Fanuel praised the players, saying their achievements reflected both talent and determination.

Tanzania Tennis Association representative Julius Maganga commended the growing interest in the sport, but stressed that the shortage of tennis courts remains a challenge to its development.
