Arusha City is laying the groundwork to revive its rich sporting heritage and return to Tanzania Premier Soccer League.

“Our dream is to see Arusha regain its position among Tanzania’s top sporting cities. With the right plans and partnerships, we can have a Premier League team again and inspire a new generation of sportsmen and women,” said the Arusha City Director, John Kayombo.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Sabasaba Sports Bonanza held at Baraa Secondary School last week, Kayombo urged sports clubs and associations in Arusha to submit clear work plans to access municipal support. He stressed the city’s commitment to elevating sports in the region, especially among the youth.

“The City Director’s Office is ready to support any team or association that brings forward a clear plan to develop sports in Arusha,” said the City Director who was represented by City Sports and Culture Officer, Benson Maneno. He revealed that a key part of the city’s vision is to construct a new football stadium in New Arusha City and ultimately secure a team in Tanzania Premier League.

As part of this vision, the city announced plans to partner with the Mwangaza Veterans team to upgrade the sports grounds at Baraa Secondary School. The improvements will include enhancing the pitch and installing floodlights, transforming Baraa into the first school in Arusha with facilities for night games.
