Tanzania’s new emerging women’s athletics star Neema Mathias Msuadi from Arusha JKT claimed a historic victory at the Perm International Marathon on September 7, 2025 in eastern Moscow, Russia.
She crossed the finishing line in a time of 2 hours, 38 minutes and 40 seconds, securing first place in the women’s category.
According to Russian outlets and confirmed by the Tanzania Athletics Federation (TAF), the race drew more than 9,000 participants, making it one of the largest sporting events in the region.
The young Neema outran a strong Russian field. Lyubov Dobrovolskaya finished in second place with 2:40:39 while Karina Batina secured closely third spot in 2:42:18.
The victory marked a significant milestone for Tanzanian athletics on the international stage, with Neema praised for her endurance and composure against experienced Russian runners.
The men’s race was won by Elkanah Langat of Kenya who posted a time of 2:17
