Moshi Khalsa reaffirmed their supremacy in hockey after sinking Black Mambaz of Dar es Salaam 2-0 in the final to retain the Nyerere Cup at the Sikh Union Club grounds in Moshi last Sunday. Backed by a rousing home crowd, Khalsa stepped onto the turf with intent and intensity. Their swift, coordinated attacks soon broke through the opposition’s defence and in the 22nd minute, Varinder Bhamra opened the scoring with a precise strike that ignited celebrations across the stands. Black Mambaz responded with skillful counterplays, keeping fans on edge but Khalsa’s backline stood firm. The golden moment came when Paul Damas, later crowned best upcoming player, doubled the lead to secure Khalsa’s championship defence in style. To reach the final, the Moshi-based side had edged past the spirited Tanga Stars in a nail-biting semi-final decided on penalties. The 14th edition of the Nyerere hockey tournament featured Moshi Khalsa A, Arusha Twigas, Moshi Khalsa B, Black Mambaz, Tanga Stars, Twende and TPDF.
