The 14th edition of the Nyerere Cup Hockey Tournament will take place at the Moshi Khalsa Club from 17th to 19th October, the Tanzania Hockey Union (THU) has announced. According to THU Secretary Kaushik Doshi (pictured), the tournament will bring together at least ten teams from Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Tanga, Moshi and Zanzibar – making it one of the biggest hockey gathering in the country. Preparations are already in high gear for the annual event, which also marks the 26th anniversary of the passing of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the Father of the Nation. Doshi said the Nyerere Cup continues to be one of Tanzania’s most popular and competitive hockey events, attracting both seasoned and upcoming players. Last year, hosts Moshi Khalsa Club lifted the trophy after defeating Black Mambaz of Dar es Salaam 2–1 in a thrilling final match.
