The new Arusha Regional Commissioner (RC), Amos Makalla, has expressed confidence that the new Arusha stadium under construction in Olmot Ward will be completed within or even, before the schedule and will be ready to host international tournaments.
Speaking after touring the site recently, Makalla noted that the facility has already reached about 60 per cent completion. The project is being carried out by China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCEG), with funding from the government estimated at more than Tshs 340 billion.
To fast-track the development, Makalla convened a session with officials from key sectors, including water, energy, roads and communications. The meeting resolved to form a technical task force that will remain on site to supervise and accelerate delivery of essential infrastructure.
He hailed President Samia Suluhu Hassan for prioritising sporting investments, pointing out that the stadium will not only meet CAF requirements, but also create opportunities in sports tourism and inject new energy into the local economy.
The contractor confirmed that the arena will feature an international-standard pitch with natural grass, a training ground and four modern changing rooms.
Work is expected to be finalised by July 2026, almost over seven months ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
