Rising star Aliabbas Somji emerged winner of the Cultural Heritage UPA Cup after carding 37 points at the Arusha Gymkhana Club last weekend.
He secured a comfortable victory in Division One ahead of Lina Francis, who posted 36 points to finish runner-up. Luv Lodhia was placed third with 35 points, rounding off a tightly contested top tier.
The day’s standout performance came from Division Two, where Owen Maganga dominated the field with an exceptional 42 points — the highest score of the entire tournament.
Kassim Somji claimed second place with 35 points, edging out Jamali Mukarram, who also returned 35 points but lost on countback to settle for third position.
In Division Three, Praveen Kumar secured victory with an impressive 41 points, followed by P. Niskala in second place with 38 points. Murad Jivan completed the podium after recording 35 points, maintaining consistent form throughout the round.
A total of 42 golfers took part in the tournament.
During a colourful prize-giving ceremony, the Managing Director of the Cultural Heritage Centre, Saiffudin Khanbhai, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting the growth of golf and expressed gratitude for the strong turnout at the event.
He also pledged to organise a future golf tournament specifically for caddies.
