The Tanfoam Marathon will, for the first time, stage a full 42km race on Sunday, December 7, 2025 – with the flag-off scheduled at the General Tyre grounds in Themi Hills, Arusha.
More than 1,300 runners have expressed interest in participating in the marathon, sponsored by the Arusha-based Tanfoam company, East Africa’s leading manufacturer of quality mattresses and allied soft home textile products.
The event will also feature a 21km half-marathon, a 10km race and a 5km fun run.
Race Chairperson Glorious Temu said the marathon has grown into an international event, attracting athletes from neighbouring countries and beyond.
For the first time, organisers will introduce electronic time tracking for accurate results while winners are set to walk away with increased cash prizes.
Tanzania Athletics Federation (TAF) President Rogath Stephen Akhweri confirmed that the race meets national standards and pledged the Federation’s full support to ensure the event’s success.
He further noted that from January 2026, new rules will require organisers to create separate categories for children, ensuring young athletes compete in their own events.
“The aim is to nurture talent from a young age to ensure Tanzania regains its position as one of the world’s athletics powers,” he stressed.
The Manager of Dar Runners, John Manyema, commended Tanfoam’s efforts, adding that without sponsors’ support, it would be difficult to revive athletics in the country.
