Telugu cricketers clinched the Ali Chomoko Cup which concluded last week at the St. Constantine’s Ground after defeating MCC to claim their first championship of the year.

MCC won the toss and elected to bowl first. Telugu began steadily, with opener Kelvin Nasibu anchoring the innings with a superb 57 while Muthu Sankar added 35 and Harshil Patel chipped in with 18 guiding the side to a competitive total of 151/9.

MCC’s bowling attack shared the spoils led by Hiral Patel (2/24), Anish Jeepron (2/27) and Yasir Patel (2/29).

In reply, MCC’s chase was launched confidently by Aneesh Jeepron, who struck a solid 44, supported by Gandharan Prasad with 28 in the middle order.

The match went down to the wire with MCC finishing on 151/7, forcing a tie. Telugu’s bowlers kept their side in the contest through Kelvin Njilinji (2/30) and Yongendra Azad (2/23).

With scores level, the game proceeded to a Super Over. MCC managed just 3 runs, as Telugu’s hero of the moment, Hiral Patel, delivered a brilliant over claiming two wickets.

Telugu needed 4 runs to seal victory—and achieved it within the first two balls, sparking jubilant celebrations among their fans.

The triumph marks Telugu’s first title of the year, a breakthrough moment after earlier setbacks, having lost two finals—one to ACC in the T20 competition and another in the Six-a-Side tournament against MCC—while Kilimeru claimed the T10 crown. A to Z remains the only other team this season to secure two trophies, both victories coming against ACC.
