The 2025 Vodacom Tanzania Open teed off on Thursday, October 2, at the Kili Golf Club bringing together more than 150 golfers from across the continent in what has become one of the region’s showcase tournaments.

The four-day, 72-hole competition has attracted players from Kenya, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Zambia and host nation Tanzania. Organisers confirmed that over 100 golfers had registered ahead of the opening day.

Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) Chairman Gilman Kasiga said the strong turnout reflects the tournament’s growing stature.

The event carries a prize fund of more than 35 million shillings. Twenty-two professionals who make the cut will share cash prizes, with the champion taking home 8.2 million shillings. Fifteen prizes have also been earmarked for amateurs, the top one valued at 2.5 million shillings, in line with global amateur rules.

Joseph Sayi, Vodacom’s Head of Marketing and Enablement, said the company’s sponsorship goes beyond sport. “This tournament is a platform that brings people together, blending competition, community and technology,” he noted.
