The High Court sitting in Moshi has upheld a life imprisonment sentence against Rashid Karia, a resident of Same District in Kilimanjaro Region, for committing sodomy against a 16-year-old girl.

Justice Adrian Kilimi delivered the ruling after dismissing Karia’s appeal, which sought to overturn the verdict handed down by the Same District Court.

“I am of the fortified view that the conviction of the appellant by the trial court was properly grounded and therefore I have no reason whatsoever to fault the trial court’s findings… Consequently, this appeal is dismissed in its entirety,” the judge stated in his recent judgment.

In his appeal, Karia argued that the prosecution had failed to prove the charge beyond reasonable doubt and cited alleged contradictions in the evidence presented.
