THE MIDNIGHT SAFARI CHASE

Poetry by Thomas Mhando

The moon hangs low, the stars shine bright,
A roaring sound cuts through the night.
The jeep moves fast, the guide looks back,
As hooves pound and stay on track.

A lion sprints, the dust flies high,
A game of life beneath the sky.
The chase is fierce, the claws extend,
Will it escape, or meet its end?

The jungle hunts, the thrill is real,
You grip the seat, your heart you feel.
The lion leaps—but misses wide!
The herd wins, it stays alive.

The silence grows, the lions rest,
Their hunger waits for what comes next.
In Africa, the wild is grand,
The life you feel, so close at hand.

The engine hums, the thrill is done,
But in your heart, the thrill will run.
For in this place, bare-tooth and free,
The wild keeps its mystery.
