Among my fond memories of teaching is when, on those rare occasions, a student asks me a question to which I don’t have an answer (despite my years of expertise in a particular subject) or when a student makes an observation that I didn’t think of.
When such kind of moments occur, they push the teacher and the student to read more and perfect their understanding of the particular concept or topic even further. Such moments of learning occur during dialogues and discussions between the tutor and the learner.
And the tutor learns in the process as well. If you’re a student who prefers to study alone, it is a good idea to meet up with one or two of your colleagues every now and then to discuss what you’re learning in your subjects. The more you do this consistently, the more effective it becomes. Doing so will help consolidate what you already know as well as further enhance your active learning. Small group discussions, when coupled with other effective study methods, catalyses the learning process significantly.
