The Arusha Regional Police headquarter has issued a statement confirming that the two persons previously reported on social media as having been abducted by unknown people in Maji ya Chai area, Arumeru District, were actually in police custody facing criminal charges.
The Arusha Regional Police Commander (RPC), Justine Masejo, named the suspects as Jackson Kabalo (32) and Joseph Mrindoko (37), who face charges of misusing social media platforms.
“The suspects were arrested by the police force on June 20, this year. They are entrepreneurs and are accused of abusing social media,” he explained.
Commander Masejo stated that investigations into the matter were still ongoing and once completed, the dual will be taken to court.
“The RPC warns social media users to refrain from spreading unverified information that causes public panic – especially claims that suspects have been abducted by unknown individuals,” he cautioned.
