The annual Nyerere Cup hockey tournament is set to take place in Moshi from 11 to 14 October.
According to Tanzania Hockey Union Secretary Kaushik Doshi, the tournament is expected to feature at least ten teams from Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Tanga, Moshi and Zanzibar.
Speaking to The Arusha News, Doshi acknowledged that this year’s tournament coincides with the General Election period but hoped that there might not be much disruption to the championship dates.
“The dates are a bit tricky as they fall within the General Election month. However, we hope all will be well to go ahead with the tournament plans,” he said.
He added that any necessary changes to the schedule will be communicated promptly to all participants.
The Nyerere Cup remains one of Tanzania’s most anticipated hockey events, honouring the legacy of the country’s founding president while fostering competitive spirit and unity among regional teams.
Last year’s Nyerere Cup hockey tournament was retained by hosts Moshi Khalsa Club after defeating Black Mambaz of Dar es Salaam 2-1 in the thrilling final.
