IT’S GOING TO BE COOL UNTIL LATE AUGUST – TMA

By The Arusha News Reporter

Residents of Arusha should brace for more weeks of brisk mornings and cool evenings, as meteorologists predict that the current spell of cooler days and chilly nights will persist through late August.

According to the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), the northeastern highlands, which include Arusha and Kilimanjaro, will remain under the influence of dry-season conditions that typically keep temperatures low at night despite sunny periods during the day.

The chill dominates in Arusha, where average daytime highs remain below 23°C this year. Though, compared to last year, when 2023 recorded slightly drier weather with lower daytime temperatures and less night warmth in certain upland areas, this year’s conditions still suggest a lingering cool-weather pattern. TMA noted it has been between 14°C and 15°C most nights.

As daylight-driven forecasts for Arusha show temperatures expected to rise from 24°C (this week) to about 26°C by mid-August, nights will remain chilly, with lows between 10°C–12°C, especially in upland areas.

The warmest windows likely to occur through August will be from southern Kisongo all the way to parts of the Kilimanjaro region, still experiencing similar conditions, with peaks getting around 21°C–24°C and nighttime lows of 17°C–21°C. Most highland areas’ temperatures will dip to around 11°C–15°C.

Sporadic light showers are still expected across the northern half of the month, but the general trend will remain dry and clear.

Climatologists say that, come late September, when the September–November seasonal shift begins, high nights that call for 13°C in some areas may return to more moderate levels. This seasonal warming trend will help eliminate the need for warm late evening wear.

For visitors and residents alike, the current weather is ideal for conditions during excursions, safaris, and mountain trekking – provided they come prepared for chilly dawns and evenings.
