By The Arusha News Reporter

The Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA), Northern Zone, has destroyed more than five tonnes of dried cannabis seized during recent anti-narcotics operations at Arumeru District in Arusha region. The destruction exercise, conducted on October 9, 2025, took place at Makao Mapya area in Uwiro Village, under a court order authorising the disposal of the addiction herbs. According to DCEA officials, the haul was the outcome of a joint enforcement operation with local residents, the Arumeru District Council and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, through the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA). It targeted the cultivation, production and trafficking of cannabis in Arumeru area. DCEA has reiterated its warning to the public to desist any involvement in drug-related offences, noting that convictions can attract penalties of up to life imprisonment under Tanzania law.
