Annadil Burhani produced disciplined bowling to stun Telugu in the on-going 20 overs Arusha Regional Cricket league at the St Constatine’s ground last weekend.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Telugu’s innings was rocked early by an outstanding spell from Taha Nurbhai, who returned impressive figures of 4 for 9. He was well supported by Taher Azeez with 3 for 26 and Huzaifa Seifuddin, who claimed 2 for 31. Despite a fighting 35 from Kelvin Njilinji and 15 from Wilbert, Telugu were eventually bowled out for 86 in the 15th over.
In reply, Annadil Burhani faced regular setbacks but managed to chase down the target in the same 15th over, finishing on 90 for 7. Taher Azeez once again made his presence felt with the bat, scoring 23 while youngster Hani Jani added a valuable 23 to guide his side home. Vinay Kumar was the lone bright spot for Telugu with the ball, finishing with figures of 2 for 16.
In the second match, Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) won the toss and chose to bat first against Annadil Burhani ‘B’, posting a competitive total of 139 for 8. Michael Justine top-scored with 26 while Linda Justine added 24. For the Burhani, Baraka Baraka and Murtaza Chomoko were the pick of the bowlers, each claiming 3 for 21.
Chasing 140 for victory, the Annadil Burhani struggled and were restricted to 69 for 6. Aisha Mohamed, Engilidy Geofrey and Rebeca Martin claimed a wicket each, but it was not enough to prevent defeat. Mufadal Musajee was the only notable contributor with the bat, scoring 21, as TCA sealed a comprehensive 70-run victory.
