More than 9,000 local and international runners have so far confirmed participation in the much-awaited 24th edition of the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager International Marathon, scheduled to take place in Moshi next Sunday, March 22, 2026.
Organisers say preparations are progressing smoothly as the northern tourism town gears up to host one of Tanzania’s biggest sporting events.
“Everything is moving as planned and preparations are in full swing,” the organisers told The Arusha News, adding that this year’s event was expected to attract over 12,000 runners from more than 60 countries generating significant economic benefits for Moshi Municipality and surrounding areas.
The Minister for Information, Sports, Arts and Culture, Paul Makonda, is expected to grace the event as the Chief Guest, underscoring the government’s continued support for sports development and sports tourism.
Distribution of marathon kits began yesterday in Dar es Salaam. For Arusha-based participants, kits will be issued at the Kibo Palace Hotel on March 17 and 18 while Moshi participants will collect theirs at Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU) from March 19 to 21.
Organisers have also announced that the People’s Expo will run from March 16 to 22 alongside the marathon activities, providing a platform for businesses, partners and stakeholders to showcase products and services as thousands of visitors converge in Moshi.
A cash award of Sh 5 million will go to the winners of the 42-kilometre full marathon in both the men’s and women’s categories. Additional incentives have also been set aside for veterans, masters and the top Tanzanian finisher.
Kilimanjaro Premium Lager is the main sponsor of the 42km full marathon while YAS sponsors the 21km half marathon and CRDB Bank backs the 5km fun run. Other sponsors, partners and suppliers are also supporting the event.
The race will be held at MoCU and is organised by Kilimanjaro Marathon Company Limited with Wild Frontiers Events handling international marketing and inbound travel.
