TOC SETS APRIL 12 FOR POLLS

The Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) has set April 12, 2026 for its general election, marking the start of a formal process that will see new leaders chosen to steer the country’s Olympic movement.

The announcement was made on March 9, 2026, alongside the release of detailed election guidelines for aspirants seeking to contest various positions within the committee.

Speaking to journalists, TOC Vice-President Henry Tandau confirmed that the election follows recent constitutional reforms. He explained that amendments to several constitutional provisions were discussed and unanimously adopted during a general meeting held on January 31, 2026 in Morogoro. The revised constitution has since been endorsed by the Registrar, clearing the way for the election to proceed.

Chairperson of the TOC Election Commission, Advocate Ibrahim Mkwawa, stated that the polls will take place in Dar es Salaam in accordance with Article 10 of the TOC constitution and electoral regulations.

According to the election timetable released by the commission, nomination forms will be available from March 14 – 27, 2026 at the TOC offices in Mwananyamala Komakoma, Dar es Salaam and at the TOC office located at the Main Library in Zanzibar.

The deadline for submitting completed forms is March 28, 2026.

The positions open for contest include the TOC President, Vice-President and 10 Executive Committee members — 5 representing Mainland Tanzania and 5 from Zanzibar.

Election officials have encouraged all qualified and interested Tanzanians to participate in the process by collecting nomination forms within the stipulated timeframe.
