MORE than 80 golfers are competing in the 2026 Arusha Open Golf Tournament which teed off yesterday at the Arusha Gymkhana Club.
The three-day competition has attracted players from Dar es Salaam, Moshi and Arusha and is sponsored by Reliance Insurance Company (T) Limited.
The Arusha Open is one of the major competitions on the Tanzania Golf Union’s annual calendar and traditionally attracts some of the country’s leading amateur golfers.
Arusha Gymkhana Club Golf Captain Niraj Vaghela told The Arusha News that the course was in good condition and that all the necessary arrangements had been completed for the prestigious competition.
“The course is in good condition and all the necessary arrangements are in place for the tournament,” Vaghela said.
The tournament will also pay tribute to the late Ravi Shankar, former Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Insurance, who died in May, this year. A strong supporter of golf, Shankar presided over the prize-giving ceremony at last year’s Arusha Open.
Attention will also be on defending champion Jay Nathwani of Arusha Gymkhana Club, who is seeking to retain the title on his home course.
The tournament concludes tomorrow, Sunday, with a colourful prize-giving ceremony.
