Young Issaya Mollel emerged as one of the brilliant performers at AGC Tennis 10s Tournament after defeating his teammate Armaan Nadim 6-3 in the Boys’ Under-10 final at the Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) last weekend.

The victory completed a successful weekend for the Arusha Gymkhana Club Youth Development Programme whose players won three titles during the two-day tournament.

Issaya and Armaan had both performed well in the earlier round-robin and knockout stages to reach the final, creating an all-AGC contest for the Boys’ Under-10 title.

AGC also celebrated victories in the girls’ competitions. Ester Lowassa won the Girls’ Under-6 category whereas Careen Mollel claimed the Girls’ Under-10 title.

Both players finished at the top of their round-robin groups after producing strong performances throughout the tournament.

Young players from visiting tennis academies also enjoyed success.

Katoto Tennis Academy of Dodoma won both Under-8 titles. Venessa Gabriel took the girls’ title while Benarn Abdul won the boys’ competition.

Burhanudin Mussajee of Morogoro Tennis Academy claimed the Boys’ Under-6 title.

The tournament brought together young players from Arusha, Dodoma and Morogoro, giving them an opportunity to compete, gain experience and build confidence on the court.

AGC Head Coach Nicolaus Leringa said he was proud to see players from the club’s youth programme winning titles on their home courts.

“Seeing our home-grown players lift trophies on their own courts makes me immensely proud,” Leringa said.
