The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) has begun its 82nd Ordinary Session at its seat in Arusha with judges expected to consider several pending applications and other judicial matters. The session, which opened on Monday, August 31, 2026 will run until September 25, 2026. During the four-week sitting, the court will deliberate on cases currently before it and continue activities marking its 20th anniversary, commemorating two decades since the court became operational in 2006.
A major highlight of the session will come on September 24, when the court is scheduled to deliver six decisions involving cases against Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Niger and Malawi. The delivery of the decisions will be open to the public at the court’s seat in Arusha and will also be accessible virtually.
