Recently sworn-in Vice President, Mr Deogratius John Ndejembi, assumed office pledging to serve all Tanzanians equally.
Mr Ndejembi (43), took the oath of office at the State House in Dodoma on Saturday, August 29, succeeding Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, who resigned the post and his letter was accepted by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
A former Minister for Energy and legislator from Chamwino, Mr Ndejembi was unanimously endorsed by Parliament the day before, with all 324 lawmakers who participated in the vote giving him a big “yes.” He had previously held several government, administrative and ruling party positions.
His rise was notable at a time when greater participation of younger leaders in high level national decision-making positions continues to attract attention.
In his first remarks after parliamentary approval, Mr Ndejembi pledged to serve all Tanzanians irrespective of their political affiliation and stressed that his performance would be measured by integrity and delivery.
President Samia congratulated the Vice-President and urged him to exercise wisdom and sound judgement while carrying out his new responsibilities.
