WETTER CONDITIONS PREDICTED THIS WEEK

BY SUKHDEV CHHATBAR

The weatherman has predicted showers and thunderstorms across parts of Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Manyara and Tanga regions this week, with possible implications for farming, tourism, transport and outdoor activities.

Advance forecasts for October 26 to November 1, 2026 suggest wetter conditions in Arusha, Moshi and Babati followed by brighter weather towards the weekend.

Tanga could experience morning rain on several days with daytime temperatures reaching approximately 34 degrees Celsius.

ARUSHA, KILI BRACE FOR HEAVY RAINS

Inland areas are forecast to record maximum temperatures of between 25 and 31 degrees Celsius. Livestock keepers should provide dry shelter and avoid moving animals through swollen streams.

Farmers should protect harvested crops, clear drainage channels and store seeds and fertiliser in dry conditions. A single shower should not be mistaken for the beginning of sustained planting rains, the forecast warned, adding that decisions about when to plant crops should be based on soil moisture levels and updated local forecasts.

Tourists should keep their plans flexible and follow advice from their guides, especially during mountain excursions and hikes along remote trails. Waterproof clothing and protection for cameras and other equipment would be useful.

Motorists should avoid crossing flooded rivers and wait for safer conditions or use alternative routes, while allowing extra time for journeys. Outdoor traders and event organisers should prepare sheltered alternatives and secure vulnerable goods.

The forecast mainly covered selected towns, with conditions elsewhere expected to vary according to altitude and location. Residents should regularly monitor weather updates from the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA).
