FROM THE ARUSHA NEWS REPORTER IN MOSHI

Utumishi Sports Club narrowly defeated Ikulu 28-27 in a thrilling final to be crowned netball champions of this year’s Inter-Ministry and Regional Sports Competition (SHIMISETA) at the Co-operative College (Ushirika).

The Games were officially closed on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The event, which began on September 23, had attracted over 2,000 public servants representing ministries, departments, government agencies and regional administrative offices.

Utumishi’s coordinated attacks and brilliant defence helped them maintain their narrow lead until the final whistle.

Utumishi had earlier thrashed RAS Mara 63-0 and defeated Elimu 90-8 in the quarter-finals.

They also recorded an 89-10 victory over Ujenzi in the semi-final before facing tough Ikulu in the title decider.

The Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Paul Christian Makonda officially opened the Games at the Moshi Police Training College grounds on September 26.

In his address, the Minister proposed Arusha as the host of next year’s edition and promised improvements to winners’ prizes, including possible cash awards.

He also lauded all the participants for their sportmanship and discipline.

Among the results reported so far, the Attorney General’s Office defeated the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports 1-0 in football, courtesy of Michael Mhina’s 52nd-minute goal.

In netball, Utumishi Sports Club registered an emphatic 63-0 victory over RAS Mara, while the Ministry of Energy overcame RAS Dar es Salaam 15-12.
