SHIMIWI GAMES TO CLOSE ON THURSDAY

The three-week SHIMIWI 2026 Games in Moshi will draw to a close on Thursday, 7 October, 2026.

The bonanza, which began on 23 September, had attracted over 2000 public servants representing ministries, departments, government agencies and regional administrative offices.

The nine sports featured are football, netball, athletics, tug of war, cycling, darts, bao, draughts and cards. Now in their 40th edition, the annual games promote fitness, unity and cooperation among public servants.

The Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Paul Christian Makonda officially openened the Games at the Moshi Police Training College grounds on September 26.

In his address, the Minister proposed Arusha as the host of next year’s edition and promised improvements to winners’ prizes, including possible cash awards.

He also lauded all the participants for their sportmanship and discipline.

Among the results reported so far, the Attorney General’s Office defeated the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports 1-0 in football, courtesy of Michael Mhina’s 52nd-minute goal.

In netball, Utumishi Sports Club registered an emphatic 63-0 victory over RAS Mara, while the Ministry of Energy overcame RAS Dar es Salaam 15-12.
