Hundreds of revelers streamed into the Magereza Grounds in Arusha last Friday morning, lining up for participation in the 11th Edition of the Karibu-Kili Fair, East Africa’s largest tourism and travel exhibition. The event was officially opened by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko, amid colourful displays, traditional dances and upbeat rhythms that set the tone for a vibrant three-day showcasing of Tanzania’s tourism might.

Now firmly established on the regional calendar, the Karibu-Kili Fair has grown from a modest gathering a decade ago into Tanzania’s second-largest trade fair—second only to the longest-running and state-sponsored Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF). The Karibu-Kili Fair is now firmly established as East Africa’s leading tourism expo, a title that aligns seamlessly with Tanzania’s global recognition as a top-tier safari destination.

The Arusha News team on Thursday found the grounds buzzing with activity as exhibitors—ranging from safari operators and hoteliers to airlines and conservation groups—put finishing touches to their pavilions, eager to welcome potential partners and clients. Colourful stalls, branded teardrop flags and the aroma of local food added a lively flair to the venue.

“This is not just an exhibition; it’s a marketplace where serious tourism business gets done,” said Mr Dominic Shoo, the Show’s Director. “We’re seeing real-time deals being discussed and connections being made that will impact the industry long after the booths come down.”

Arusha Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Paul Makonda, who toured the grounds earlier this week, urged Tanzanian businessmen to seize the momentum. “You should take advantage of this rare opportunity to promote your services, form networks and expand your businesses beyond our borders,” he said.

The Karibu-KiliFair will run through the weekend and is expected to draw thousands of local and international visitors. Organisers hope the event will generate tangible business leads, enhance Tanzania’s brand visibility and foster lasting partnerships across the travel and tourism sectors.
