UGANDA PRISONS WIN EA NETBALL CLUBS CHAMPIONSHIP

Uganda Prisons Netball Club were crowned champions of the 2026 East African Netball Clubs Championship last weekend after defeating compatriots National Insurance Corporation (NIC) 41–38 in a closely contested final played at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

The all-Ugandan final brought the regional tournament to an exciting close with Uganda Prisons recovering from a slow start to secure the title.

NIC led 13–12 at the end of the first quarter and remained ahead 22–21 at half-time before Uganda Prisons fought back strongly in the third quarter to take a 34–31 lead.

Uganda Prisons maintained their advantage in the final quarter to seal the victory and confirm their dominance in the competition.

The championship brought together 13 women’s clubs from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Uganda was represented by Uganda Prisons, NIC, KCCA and Uganda Police, while Tanzania fielded Jeshi Stars, Police Arusha, Veterans and the Institute of Accountancy Arusha.

Kenya’s representatives included Ulinzi Swords, Kenyatta National Hospital, Kenya Prisons and Red Perils with KVZ representing Zanzibar.

Tanzanian representatives, including Police Arusha and the Institute of Accountancy Arusha, were eliminated in the group stage.
