Four junior players from Arusha Gymkhana Club helped Tanzania secure qualification for the African Junior Team Championship in Morocco, after the national boys’ and girls’ teams finished runners-up at the 2026 ITF Eastern African 12-and-Under Junior Team Competition in Dar es Salaam, last week.
Janeth Silvery Massawe, Hyness Eliwaha Mfinanga, Faraja Franaeli Mbise and Bernard Samson Singoyan played key roles during the tournament held from July 29 to August 2.
Massawe was outstanding in the girls’ competition, completing the tournament unbeaten in singles. She recorded victories against opponents from Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda and Burundi.
Mbise also secured important singles wins while Mfinanga partnered effectively with Massawe in doubles. Tanzania defeated Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda before losing 2-1 to Burundi in the final.
In the boys’ competition, Singoyan contributed a convincing 6-1, 6-1 singles victory over Uganda. Tanzania later defeated Burundi in the semi-finals before losing 3-0 to Kenya in the final.
