ARUSHA’S SANDHU READY FOR GURU NANAK RALLY

BY THE ARUSHA NEWS REPORTER

Arusha’s Gurpal Sandhu says he is ready for the Guru Nanak Rally, which will take place on November 14–15 at Makuyuni , on the outksirts of Arusha town.

“We have fixed our car and are looking forward to next week’s (Sunday’s) challenge,” Sandhu told The Arusha News.

The local ace driver will be seeking to improve on his third-place finish in the previous edition which was won by Kenya’s Samman Vohra and co-driver Drew Sturrock in a Škoda Fabia Evo.

Sandhu secured the podium finish alongside co-driver Dave Sihoka from Zambia in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Originally scheduled for 2025, that edition was postponed and held in January 2026.

Arusha Motor Sports Club (AMSC) Secretary General, Monica Lyimo, said organisers expected about 20 entries, including participants from Kenya and Uganda.

“Preparations are in top gear,” she said.

Monica said the organising committee was finalising the routes and logistical arrangements, with everything expected to be ready by the middle of next week.

Assas is the main sponsor of the two-day event, which is expected to draw motorsport enthusiasts to Makuyuni as local crews take on competitors from neighbouring countries.

Saturday, November 14, will be devoted to scrutineering, reconnaissance and other preliminary activities before the competitive stages on Sunday, November 15.

Scrutineering involves inspecting competing vehicles and safety equipment, while reconnaissance allows drivers and co-drivers to familiarise themselves with the course and prepare their pace notes.

The previous edition produced a Kenyan one-two finish, with Jasmeet Chana and Ravi Chana taking second place ahead of Sandhu and Sihoka.

For Sandhu, the forthcoming rally offers an opportunity to improve on that result in front of his home supporters.
