A STEP TOWARDS SAFER ARUSHA

As Arusha continues to grow as a major commercial and tourism centre, strengthening public safety should remain an important priority. With Arusha preparing to host matches during AFCON 2027, the need for effective security measures becomes even more important.

One practical step would be the expansion of a modern CCTV surveillance system across the city.

Strategically placed high quality cameras along major roads, intersections, markets, business areas and other public spaces could assist law enforcement in preventing and investigating crime. CCTV footage can provide valuable evidence in cases involving theft, robbery, vandalism and road accidents, while also helping establish what actually occurred during an incident.

Beyond crime prevention, visible surveillance could increase public confidence and create a greater sense of security for residents, visitors and businesses. People may feel more comfortable travelling, working and conducting business during evening hours when public areas are properly monitored.

However, such a system should operate within the law, with appropriate safeguards for privacy, access to recordings and responsible use of personal information.

A safer Arusha is not only about more police presence; smart technology can give the city more eyes, faster responses and greater security.
