KOREAN STUDENTS STUDY WILDLIFE FIRST HAND

A delegation of lecturers and students from National University Korea visited the Lake Manyara National Park on July 17, 2026 to study diverse ecosystems and the relationship between wildlife, vegetation, birds and their natural surroundings.

The educational visit formed part of the delegation’s field-based training in wildlife ecology. It gave the group an opportunity to observe how different species coexist and depended on one another within the Park’s interconnected habitats.

The 37-member delegation was led by Professor Chang-Yong Choi, who said he was impressed by the variety of ecosystems concentrated within Lake Manyara National Park. He noted that the landscape included mountains, forests and the lake, creating suitable habitats for numerous species of birds and mammals within a relatively small area.

Professor Choi was also particularly impressed with the ecological connection between Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Park, which allows wildlife and other species to move through a broader natural landscape.

“What impressed me most was seeing several ecosystems functioning together in such a limited area, from the mountains and forests to the lake,” Professor Choi said.

He added that the presence of different bird and mammal species living within the same environment demonstrated the Park’s ecological importance.

Senior Conservation Officer, Abdul Sharif, said the visit helped the students and lecturers to gain more than academic knowledge, as they received first-hand exposure to wildlife conservation and tourism management in Tanzania.

He said the experience would add practical dimension to their ecological studies and deepen their understanding of how protected areas are managed.

National Parks provide important settings for education and scientific research. Their ecosystems enable students, researchers and scientists to examine biodiversity, climate conditions, animal behaviour, plant life and the interaction between living organisms and their environment.
