Guru Nanak Rally founder, Amerjit Singh Dhillon

Arusha’s motorsport fraternity is mourning the death of veteran rally enthusiast and Guru Nanak Rally founder, Amerjit Singh Dhillon (64 – pictured), popularly known as “Mr Sunvic”, whose contribution helped shape rallying in northern Tanzania.
Dhillon, a long-serving member of the Arusha motorsport community and a pioneer of rallying in the region, died on June17, 2026 and was laid to rest on June 22 in Dar es Salaam.
His death has been received with deep sorrow by rally drivers, organisers, officials, business associates and many people who knew him through motorsport and community service.
The deceased was also a keen rally driver himself and excelled in some of them.
A former Chairman of Arusha Motor Sports Club (AMSC), Walter Maeda, told The Arusha News that the deceased promoted many young drivers in Arusha and offered them facilities at his yard in Mbauda and even sponsored some of them to participate in motor rallies.
“He was a great sportsman with a big heart,” said Maeda who worked very closely with Dhillon for over 10 years to encourage motor sport in Arusha in 1990s.
The AMSC Chairman Goodluck Mariki described the late Dhillon as one of the key figures behind the growth of organised rallying in Arusha.
He is widely credited with founding the Guru Nanak Rally, which has grown over the years into one of the important events on the local motorsport calendar.
