Arusha is host to swimmers from Tanzania and beyond as the Arusha International Masters Swimming Championship 2026 gets underway at the UWC East Africa, Arusha Campus swimming pool this weekend.
The two-day championship, organised by the Tanzania Masters Swimming Committee under the Tanzania Swimming Association, will bring together adult swimmers across a remarkably broad range of age groups, beginning at 25-29 years and extending to competitors aged 70 and above.
Held under the theme “Swimming Beyond Borders: Fitness, Friendship and Excellence,” the event is aimed at promoting competitive swimming beyond the traditional elite-athlete age bracket while encouraging lifelong fitness, friendship and active ageing.
The championship will feature freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and individual medley races, together with mixed and team relay events. Competition will follow World Aquatics rules, with races conducted as timed finals.
A development category has also been included for less experienced Masters swimmers, featuring shorter 25-metre races in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. Differently abled and Paralympic Masters swimmers are also eligible.
Medals will be awarded to the top three swimmers in the respective age groups and events while participants will also receive certificates.
