MORE than 400 children, youth and adults took part in the annual Our Education Sports Bonanza in Arusha fortnight ago aimed at identifying talent, promoting sport and preserving traditional games.
Organised by Our Education Development Organisation, the event was held at Tindigani-Kijenge Juu grounds and Kimandolu Primary School, featuring 12 activities including football, netball, chess, draughts, archery, bao, chicken chasing and art.
Organisation Director Amos Kasaramba said more than seven football teams from schools and local communities participated with some players identified through previous editions later joining institutions or forming their own teams.
Culture, Arts and Sports Manager Shila Laizer said the inclusion of ‘bao’ helped connect older and younger generations through traditional games.
Kijenge Primary School sports teacher Mwinyi Rajab Soud said sport was increasingly creating employment opportunities and urged schools and parents to support children in developing their sporting talents from an early age and pursuing future professional career opportunities.
